A wonderful place with amazing employees that really care. The experience I had with my Dad living at Shepherd Premier was the best. A home where seniors can live and get the care they need in a home.

My brother and I researched several senior living facilities in McHenry County and ultimately chose Shepherd Premier for our mom. We are so grateful that we did. We highly recommend Shepherd Premier! My mom was there for three weeks for end-of-life care, and we couldn't have asked for better support. The facility, while older, is clean and well-maintained. It accommodates a maximum of 12 residents, and during my mom's stay, there were only nine residents present. There were always 3 to 4 caregivers on duty, ensuring that there was sufficient support at all times. I visited my mom twice a day at various times over those three weeks, and I consistently observed enough caregivers available for the residents. Each caregiver, nurse, and general manager truly cared for the residents and demonstrated a genuine passion for their well-being. If anyone would like to discuss Shepherd Premier, please ask the General Manager to connect us. I would be happy to share all the positive experiences regarding the care my mom received.

I honestly can say we love Shepherd. The search to find a place for my mom, who suffers with her dementia, was a difficult and heart rending process. She was lost in the gap, unable to navigate larger facilities, acutely aware of her 'difference' from other residents. She stayed to herself, no community, no friends. Memory care was the next step, which was an unacceptable option for me... Shepherd changed her life and lifted her out of a non- existence. She was instantly welcomed into a community- it IS memory care, but she is not left to eternally wander the halls. She is included at the large meal table, wins (she loves to tell me) at Trivia games and as a former nurse finds meaning in tending to the ones around her who, in her words, ' need the help more than I do.' Dementia is never easy, there is no 'solution', and we're all still encompassing my mom's slow yet steady decline. It's one of the most difficult passages I've ever been through. I have had many informal meetings with the staff as they help me navigate the process of dementia, when too many clothes become a burden, when they accompany me on the Shepherd Bus to take my mom to her doctor appointments, when medicines and care routines need to change. Meantime, Shepherd's model supports my mom, her cognition and her sense of belonging. She has access to the outdoors, sunshine and home cooked meals. She thrives with her new family and whispered to me upon witnessing the final days of her bedridden and non- verbal roommate ' I would be ok to die here, they take such good care of us.
